Starting school again is very interesting. Some people are reluctant to resume the routine of spending all of your waking hours and some of your sleeping hours on schoolwork, but others seem to have a fresh drive to succeed and be perfect. I don't know if that's because of the new year or the new semester or both, but I think its interesting because 95% of those people will regress to their old habits within a month.
That may be pessimistic of me to say that, but the people who crowd up gyms for the month of January seem to be doomed to stay home and be lazy during the month of February. In my personal opinion, to really change a habit I think you have to have a stronger motivation behind it than wanting to be skinnier in 2012. I believe its that way with all kinds of New Years Resolutions that people set. Without the proper motivation behind it they are doomed to fail.
So my new years resolution for this year is to break my new years resolution.
Now the only question left is.... Is it possible?
My other observation about being back to school is all the different kinds of advice that people give me about my schedule.
Here is my schedule for Winter 2012:
CHEM 106 General College Chemistry Lab (1 credit)
CHEM 107 General College Chemistry (3 credits)
MMBIO 240 Molecular Biology (3 credits)
NEURO 205 Neurobiology (3 credits)
PSYCH 301Psychological Statistics (4 credits)
REL A 122 Book of Mormon (2 credits)
Now most of the people I have talked to about my schedule have told me that it is crazy to be taking all those classes together and I should drop one. However, Chemistry 106 and 107 are best taken together, and my freshman mentoring bundle groups them with MMBIO 240. I am taking Neurobiology for my major (Neuroscience). Psychological Statistics will review my stats skills for applying to grad school, and will also be a good back up plan if I decide to change my major or it could give me credit for a minor in psychology. Then I have Book of Mormon, which is required for graduation at BYU, and it just seems wrong to drop.
So while other people think I am crazy, I am just preparing to do lots of studying this semester. I think it will be hard, but I also think it is doable. I don't know what to expect from Chemistry 107 because I haven't had that one yet, and I think the workload for Molecular Biology will be an adjustment. But other than that I think I know what to expect and I think this semester will be just fine.
